WHO WE ARE

We are the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW).

We are members of LCDR Edward Lea USN, Camp 2 in Houston, TX.

We are heirs to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), a fraternal organization founded by Union Civil War veterans in 1866.

We are members of your community.

We are your friends and neighbors.

WHAT WE DO

We honor our Union Civil War ancestors by saying their names and telling their stories.

We preserve the history and legacy of their heroic service to save the Union and end slavery.

We participate in ceremonies honoring all veterans, especially Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day, and our annual Battle of Galveston Commemoration.

We foster patriotism and its vital importance to our nation.

We restore, maintain and dedicate the final resting places of Civil War veterans.

We participate in battle reenactments and living history events throughout the year.

We conduct research to obtain and install State Historical Markers and other memorials.

We present Eagle Scout and Jr. ROTC / ROTC Achievement Awards.

We enjoy fellowship and brotherhood as we work to preserve the honorable principles our forefathers.

We assist with genealogical research for prospective members and help them join the Order.

WHY WE DO IT

We are patriots who are passionate about preserving our Nations’ values and history.

We are faithful Sons who honor our ancestors and revere their heritage.

If you share these values, we invite you to Join Us.
